Data shows that in 2025, the consumption proportion of high-strength cold-rolled steel for new energy vehicles exceeded 12%, an increase of 8 percentage points compared with 2020. Among them, the annual growth rate of key segments such as power battery shell steel and lightweight body panels reached 18%.
To match downstream demand, leading domestic steel mills are accelerating the R&D and mass production of high-end cold-rolled coils. Baoshan Iron & Steel's 780MPa grade dual-phase steel has achieved large-scale production, which is 20% lighter than traditional materials and can meet the lightweight needs of new energy vehicle body structural parts; Wuhan Iron & Steel's developed ultra-flat cold-rolled coils have a thickness tolerance controlled within ±0.03mm, accurately matching the requirements of precision stamping processes, and have been widely used in high-end auto parts manufacturing.

Industry insiders pointed out that in the next three years, ultra-high strength cold-rolled steel above 1200MPa will become the focus of R&D, and its market share is expected to increase from the current 8% to 20% by 2028. At the same time, with the popularization of intelligent manufacturing technology, digital cold-rolled production lines will realize dynamic optimization of process parameters, further improving product precision and production efficiency, and promoting the in-depth penetration of the cold-rolled coil industry into the high-end manufacturing field.
