In the upstream raw material link, steel mills have increased the recycling and utilization of scrap steel, promoting the popularization of short-process production technology. In 2025, the industry's scrap steel utilization rate increased by 5 percentage points compared with the previous year; in the midstream production link, low-carbon technologies such as hydrogen energy heating furnaces and AI intelligent temperature control have been gradually applied, and the energy consumption per ton of steel has decreased by 12%-15% compared with traditional processes.
The green transformation of downstream application fields has also put forward higher requirements for hot-rolled coils. In new energy power projects, components such as wind turbine towers and photovoltaic brackets have strict standards for the weather resistance and strength of hot-rolled coils, prompting steel mills to develop characteristic products such as weather-resistant steel and high-strength low-alloy hot-rolled coils. Data shows that in 2025, the demand for hot-rolled coils in the new energy field increased by 23% year-on-year, accounting for 15% of the total demand.

The industry association stated that in the next five years, low-carbon production technology will become the core competitiveness of hot-rolled coil enterprises. It is expected that by 2030, the penetration rate of hydrogen energy heating furnaces in the industry will exceed 60%, and the proportion of digital and intelligent production lines will reach more than 80%. At the same time, the upper, middle and lower reaches of the industrial chain will further strengthen collaboration, establish a green supply chain system, and promote the high-quality development of the hot-rolled coil industry.
